Wood Carpenter
Because of their mastery of all things wood, carpenter
services have been needed throughout human history. Their skills have
been used to build everything from shelter and furniture to ships and
horse-drawn wagons. Human civilization, in many respects, would not
be possible without the carpenter.
The wood carpenter can specialize in a variety of techniques. Common
specialties in home construction include trim and finish carpentry,
as well as cabinet and furniture making. Other types of carpenters can
include ship builders, luthiers, and set builders for movies and television.
Becoming a wood carpenter takes several years of on the job training;
and in many cases several years of classroom study or apprenticeship.
Most carpenters are self-employed, which is what attracts many to the
profession. Working for oneself is often the most rewarding part of
the job.
